Teadrawing 티드로잉

       나의 작업은 차(Tea)를 우려낸 찻물로 그려진 티드로잉(Teadrawing) 입니다. 차는 매우 매력적인 재료입니다. 인공적인 아크릴의 느낌과 다르고, 수채화의 느낌보다 자연스럽고 시간이 지남에 따라 깊은 색감을 냅니다. 우연히 시작되었지만, 차는 무엇보다 자연과 사람에 대한 이야기를 하고 있는 저의 작업에 적합한 재료라고 생각합니다. 차를 마시는 시간을 통해 많은 이들의 몸과 마음이 쉼을 얻고 새로워집니다. 티드로잉을 통해서 몸과 마음이 새로워지는 영적인 세계로 관객들을 초대하고자 합니다.
       2007년 캔버스 위에 차를 충동적으로 부은 것을 시작으로 2007-2011년까지(첫번째 시기), 2018-현재까지(두번째 시기) 티드로잉시리즈를 이어오고 있습니다. 첫번째 시기의 티드로잉의 주제는, 남녀간의 사랑에 의한 고통과 슬픔입니다. 주로, 남녀의 형상, 꽃, 나무, 칼, 컵이 그려지며, 때때로 자연물과 인간의 형상들이 결합되기도 합니다. 두번째 시기의 티드로잉의 주제는, 보이지 않는 영적인 세계의 시각화입니다. 티드로잉 시리즈를 통하여 죄와 욕망, 심판과 구원에 대한 이야기를 그려냅니다.
       보통 드로잉을 할 때는, 마음에 가득히 쌓여있는 이야기들을 직관적으로 그려냅니다. 인간의 형상, 영적인 존재의 형상, 성경에 대한 이야기가 펼쳐집니다. 큰 사이즈의 작업들은 계획을 세우고 시작합니다. 예전에 그렸던 드로잉이나, 사진이 그 출발점이 됩니다. 참고로 쓰이는 사진들은 대부분 직접 촬영합니다. 감정적인 몸짓을 표현하는 인물의 사진을 찍습니다. 저는 현대무용을 좋아하는데, 직접적인 대사 없이 감정을 나타내는 상징적인 몸의 언어가 매우 흥미로웠습니다. 작업을 위한 사진을 찍는 것은 또 다른 자극과 영감을 주는 시간들입니다.
       저는 회화가 실질적으로는 얇지만, 깊이감이 느껴지는 작품들을 좋아합니다. 저의 작품 또한 종이에 그려지기에 얇지만, 깊이감이 있는 작품이 되길 원합니다. 초창기의 작업이 인물이나 사물 등 하나의 사건을 중점적으로 그려낸 것이라면, 현재의 작업은 많은 상황들과 인물들이 레이어를 이루며, 서사적인 작품을 만들어 냅니다. 티가 흘러내리고, 마르는 과정에서 생기는 흔적들도 매력적인 부분입니다. 형태에 갇혀있는 것이 아닌 자유롭게 흐르는 부분들과 구상적인 부분들이 한 화면 안에서 조화롭게 펼쳐지길 원합니다.


       My works can be defined as tea drawings painted with tea-brewed water. To me, tea is such an attractive material. It is intrinsically different from artificial acrylic, feels more natural than watercolors and creates deep hues as time passes. Although I came across it by accident, I firmly believe that tea is the type of materialthat suits my works which above all else, tells stories aboutnature and humans. In the course of time it takes to drink tea, many people become relaxed, take a rest, and refresh themselves both in the mind and body. I intend to inspire the viewers to wonder about the spiritual world and make the time to rest the mind and body through the tea drawing.
       From the moment I first poured tea onto the canvas simply on impulse, I have continued the tea drawing series from 2007 to 2011 (the 1st period) and from 2018 to the present (the 2nd period). The themes of the 1st period were pain and sadness from the love that exists between a man and a woman. I mainly painted the shapes ofthe man and the woman, flowers, woods, knives, and cups which on occasions overlapped with natural objects and human figures. The theme of the 2nd period was the visualization of the invisible spiritual world. The series depicted the stories of sin, desire, judgment and salvation.
       In general, when creating paintings, I depict the stories that are fully structured in my mind with intuition. Those paintings are about the figures of humans,the figures of spiritual beings, and the stories from the Bible. As for the large-scaled works, I begin with plans centered on my previous drawings or photographs. The photographs used in my works are usually taken by me. I focus on humans expressing emotional gestures and movement. Contemporary dance is an area of interest for me since the language of the body that expresses emotions without any direct lines was a source of fascination to me. Taking photographs for my works are the times that provide extra stimulation and inspiration for me.
       One of my favorite works is the one that gives the feel of being thin but in fact has depth. I aim to create works with depth although my paintings are drawn on thin paper. While my works in the early years focused on one event such as figures or objects, nowadays I create narrative pieces in which many situation and figures are layered. The traces that are created in the course of the dripping and drying of tea attract me. I wish that freely flowing parts not trapped in a particular form and figurative parts would harmonize together on a canvas.
